Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary and Preschool Education
Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary and Preschool Education at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology prepares specialists for the Specialties
“012 Preschool Education” and
“013 Primary Education” for three levels of higher education: Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees.
The Department was created on the basis of the Department of Pedagogical Mastery and Educational Technologies, Natural and Mathematical Disciplines of Primary Education and the parts of the Department of Pedagogy and Gender Equality. The Department began operating on 1 September, 2013 (at that time it was called the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education). It was headed by Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Olexandra Ivanivna Yankovych. On 25 November, 2014 the Department was renamed to the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary and Preschool Education.
The Department has very interesting history of its development. The training for experts of the specialty “Primary Education” at Ternopil State Pedagogical Institute (now Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University) began operating in 1976 on the base of the recently created Faculty of Primary Teacher Training (Dean Herts M.I.). At the same time the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education was formed and it was headed by Vozniuk L.V. At that time it was the only Department at the Faculty. The first lecturers of the Department were: PhD in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Herts M.I., PhD in Biological Sciences Kostynnyk I.Ya. , senior lecturer Pron I.I., Assistant Korol Ya.A., and senior laboratory assistant Stratiichuk R.V.
Today the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary and Preschool Education consists of 16 scientific and pedagogical workers: 3 Doctors of Pedagogical Sciences, Professors (Kodliuk Ya.P., Chaika V.M., Yankovych O.I.) and 1 Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor (Onyshkiv Z.M.); 15 PhDs: 9 Associate Professors (Boiko M.M., Hladiuk T.V. , Zharkova I.I., Lupak N.M., Matiash V.V., Mudryk O.V., Pysarchuk O.T., Rozhko-Pavlyshyn T.A., Chaikovska H.B. ); 3 lecturers (Kovalchuk L.I., Palamarchuk L.M., Khrebtova N.R.); 2 laboratory assistants (Vykhyl M.T., Tsviakh H.Ye. ). And 5 part-time lecturers: Vyhor S.T., Kuzma I.I., Postoliuk M.I., Ratushniak N.O., Tesliuk O.Ya. Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Krutii K.L. had been working at the Department from 2015 to 2018.
The Department has been effectively operating a research laboratory of the school manual since 2006 (Professor Kodliuk Ya.P. is the Head of the laboratory) and interactive and development rooms “Smailyk” (Project Manager - Assoc. Prof. Pysarchuk O.T.) and “Learning and Development for Everyone” (Project Manager –Tesliuk O.Ya.) since 2019.
The scientists of the Department cooperate with the editorial board of the “Primary School” magazine.
Hladiuk T.V., Zharkova I.I., Kuzma I.I., Onyshkiv Z.M., Pysarchuk O.T., Chaika V.M., Chaikovska H.B., Yankovych O.I. elaborate textbooks for primary general education schools of 1st level, developmental notebooks and books for primary school students, as well as programmatic and methodological publications for preschool educational institutions.
The Department effectively cooperates with Ternopil regional, city and district Departments of Education, Ternopil Regional Municipal Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, Chortkiv Humanitarian and Pedagogical College named after Olexander Barvinskyi, Brody Markiian Shashkevych Pedagogical College, Scientific Institutions of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine. Since 2008 Kodliuk Ya.P. has been the Member of the Interagency Council for the Coordination of Research in education, pedagogy and psychology in Ukraine.
The scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department takes part in the educational process of foreign higher education institutions; Chaika V.M. and Yankovych O.I. are teachers of the universities of the Republic of Poland.
The scientists of the Department are known in Ukraine and abroad for their educational and methodological publications for preschool, primary school and higher education institutions as well as the monographs and articles in publications indexed in international scientometric bases.
