Department of Geography and Methods of its Teaching

As of beginning of 2019/2020 academic year teaching staff of the Department consisted of 13 members, including 2 professors, 6 associate professors, 3 teachers and 2 senior laboratory assistants.


Today the Department provides training of the following specialties: 

  • 014.07 Secondary education (Geography), 
  • 103 Earth sciences (specialties: constructive geography, social geography, soil science and management of land resources), 
  • 106 Geography (specialties: of management of territories and regional development, geography of tourism and recreations), 
  • 101 Ecology, 014.05 Secondary education (Biology), 
  • 014.06 Secondary education (Chemistry).

According to the curricula, students of the Department have educational field practices. Geology and geomorphology practices are held at the station of the Faculty of geography in the Dzvenyhorod village, Borshchiv region and Verkhnie Synievydne village (Carpathian Mountains); meteorology practices are held on the base of Ternopil airport meteorological station; topography, hydrology and soil geography practices are held nearby Ternopil; landscape science practices are held in the region of Shatsk Lakes and nearby Mount Hoverla in Carpathian Mountains. Complex route practices include bus journeys to different terrestrial ecosystems of Ukraine (forest-steppe, steppe, Carpathian Mountains) and production facilities, located on their territory, where students can learn about their physiographic features and methods of field research. Pedagogical practices are held in schools and colleges of Ternopil.


Geological Museum, Laboratory of Innovative Technologies in Geography and Laboratory of Field Physiographic Research (stationary of the Faculty of Geography) in Dzvenyhorod village, Borshchiv region, function at the Department.


The Department staff conduct scientific researches on the collective topic “Complex geographical researches of natural economic systems of Podillia” (state registration number 0118U003133).
