History of the Department
The Department of History of Ukraine was established in 1991. In November 2018, the Faculty of History underwent a reorganization, thus the Department of History of Ukraine, Archeology and Special Fields of Historical Science was created. The Department is headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Mykola Valentynovych Barmak. Teachers of the Department manage archaeological, local history, museum and archival practices of history students. The Department conducts significant educational, methodological and scientific activities, the results of which are scientific conferences, published monographs, textbooks, manuals, articles and theses. An important place in the work of the Department is the preparation and participation of students, master and postgraduate students in the Olympiads, scientific competitions and problem solving groups, organization of research work. The innovative work of the Department is based on the introduction and practical use of modern information technologies, credit and modular system, electronic multimedia educational disciplines and more.

Members of the Department take an active part in social, political, public and cultural life; head various establishments, societies and institutes both within and outside the University. In particular, Mykola Barmak is the Head of the Center for European Studies at TNPU; Volodymyr Starka heads the Research Center for the Study of the Heroic Past of the Ukrainian People; Volodymyr Okarynskyi is the curator of the Student Club of European Studies and so on. The Department maintains extensive and fruitful international scientific relations. In particular, Mykola Barmak is a member of the international project of Interdisciplinary Research in the Social Sciences TISCASS (Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine); Ivan Kutsyi participates in the Ukrainian-Polish research project “History. Mentality. Identity. The Role of Historians in the Lives of Polish and Ukrainian Peoples in the 19th and 20th Centuries” etc.
