Volodymyr Kravets was born in 1947 in Husiatyn, Ternopil region. He graduated with honors from Kremenets Secondary School No. 4 (1965) and from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Ternopil State Pedagogical Institute (1970). He completed postgraduate studies at the Research Institute of the Ukrainian USSR (1978) and served in the military (1970-1971). He has held various scientific, teaching, and administrative positions at Ternopil State Pedagogical Institute, including Associate Professor of Pedagogy, Head of the Pedagogy Department, Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. From 1990 to 2017, he was the Rector of Ternopil National Pedagogical University. Under his leadership, the institute was reorganized into a university (1997) and received national university status (2004). Since 2018, he has served as the Rector's Advisor at TNPU. From 2001 to 2017, he was a member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, a member of the Ministry of Education and Science’s Attestation Board (2005-2017), a member of the Presidium of the Union of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Ternopil region, and a member of the Commission for the Awarding of State Prizes in Education (2011-2017). On October 28, 2024, by order of the Minister of Education and Science, Volodymyr Kravets, the Rector's Advisor, was appointed as Acting Rector of TNPU.
Volodymyr Kravets is a Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences (1997), Professor (1994), and Honored Educator of Ukraine (1997). In 1999, he became a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine. In 2010, he was elected a full member (academician) of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine. He was elected an academician of the Ya. Komenskyi International Slavic Academy of Education (2004) and an Honorary Doctor of the Hryhoriy Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University (2012).
Volodymyr Kravets is an expert in pedagogy theory and history, and his research focuses on gender psychology, family pedagogy, and young people's premarital preparation. He has published over 250 scientific works and holds the university's highest H-index (citation index). He has completed internships at various institutions, including the Central Institute for Advanced Training of Teachers of Psychology and Pedagogy of the Ministry of Education of the USSR (Moscow, 1982), Sorbonne University (Paris, 1996), the Central Institute for Advanced Training of Education Leaders of Ukraine (2000, 2005, 2010), Goethe University (Frankfurt, 2012), Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (2005), and H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University (2014).
Under Professor Kravets' scientific guidance, numerous projects were implemented, including the "Psychology of Gender and Sexuality" funded by the Renaissance Foundation, the scientific project "Supporting and preserving the reproductive health of orphans, family planning", several scientific conferences with the status of International and All-Ukrainian on gender issues and preservation of reproductive health were held health. Since 2001, he has overseen state-budgeted research projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, including:• 2001–2002 – "Psychological and Pedagogical Foundations for Preparing Future Teachers in Sexual Education for Children and Youth as a Basis for Developing Family-Oriented Individuals."• 2003–2006 – "Gender Socialization of Children and the Education of Gender Equality Among Children and Youth."• 2008–2011 – "Gender Competencies in the Educational and Professional Development of Youth" (Project No. 0109U002308).• 2009 – "Gender Education and Upbringing: Prospects for Development" (Project No. 0106U002384).• 2012–2014 – "Gender-Education Technologies in the Humanities: Experience and Prospects" (Project No. 0112U000276).• 2015–2017 – "Implementing a Gender Approach in the Educational Environment of 'School – Family – Community' in the Context of the European Model of Democracy" (Project No. 0115U000193).• Since 2008, head of the Gender Education and Upbringing Center for Youth at the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine and Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University.• Since 2013, patron of the Tempus project "ELITE" - Education for Leadership, Intelligence, and Talent Encouraging.• 2017–2021 – "Psychological and Pedagogical Mechanisms for Creating a Gender-Equal Environment for Children and Youth in the Context of the New Ukrainian School Concept" (Project No. 0119U100477).
Volodymyr Kravets led specialized academic councils for defending doctoral and candidate dissertations at Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University for 20 years. Under his supervision, 20 doctoral and candidate dissertations were successfully defended. He organized numerous international and national scientific conferences on gender issues and has presented at various international conferences abroad, including in Poland (2011, 2013, 2015, 2018), Latvia (2016, 2020), Slovenia (2019, 2020), Slovakia (2017, 2020), and in the UK, Canada, Japan, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Greece in 2020. Under his academic leadership, a research center focused on gender education and the development of youth was established at the university in collaboration with the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.
For his dedicated work, he has received numerous honors, including the Order of Merit, 2nd (2008) and 3rd (2015) classes, the Honorary Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2017), the Honorary Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (2010), and the Honorary Diploma of the Central Committee of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine (2017). He was also awarded the "Petro Mohyla" badge by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2007), along with badges from the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine such as "Kostiantyn Ushynskyi" (2007), "Hryhorii Skovoroda" (2012), "Volodymyr Monomakh" (2017), and "Ivan Franko" (2022). Additionally, he has received awards from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, local governments, sports federations, and religious organizations.
In 2001, he was named “Person of the Year,” and in 2015, he was listed among the 100 best people of Ternopil. He was granted the title of "Honorary Citizen of Ternopil" in 2016. He was also awarded the medal "For Sacrifice and Love for Ukraine" by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and received recognition from the Presidium of the Football Federation of Ukraine. In 2020, he was awarded the "Pride of the University" memorial badge by Ternopil National University, being the first to receive it.

Oversees the university’s operations, bearing personal responsibility for its development, quality of specialist training, research, organizational climate, and staffing policy.2. Represents the university in state bodies, institutions, and public organizations.3. Leads the Academic Council, rectorate, and admissions committee.4. Hires and dismisses employees and defines their duties.5. Encourages university employees and enforces disciplinary actions.6. Issues orders regulating university activities.7. Manages the university's assets and finances.8. Ensures occupational safety and adherence to internal regulations.9.
