Bohdan Buyak was born on October, 26th, 1974 in Ternopil.In 1992 he finished Ternopil secondary school #11, in 1992-1997 he studied at the Faculty of History of Ternopil State Pedagogical University. After graduating from the University he studied for his PhD in specialty 07.00.01 History of Ukraine and finished it in 2000. Still a postgraduate student Bohdan Buyak worked as an assistant director in TOV Vatra-Ars and as a manager in Perlyna club. In autumn 1997 he worked as a teacher of history in Proshova secondary school in Ternopil region. On September 11th, 2000 he was appointed to the post of the Head of Youth Department of Ternopil State Pedagogical University.
On December 26th, 2001 Bohdan Buyak defended his PhD thesis Development of Industrial Sphere of Western Regions of Ukrainian Soviet Socialistic Republic during 1944-1950s (Based on the Materials of Drohobych, Lviv, Stanislav and Ternopil Regions) in specialty 07.00.01 – History of Ukraine in Chernivtsi Yurii Fedkovych National University Dissertation Advisory Committee.
Bohdan Buyak has been working as a lecturer in Ternopil Pedagogical University since 2001 when he was appointed to the post of the assistant professor of History of Ukraine Department of Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk State Pedagogical University. In 2005 he was appointed to the post of the associate professor of the Department and in 2013 he took up his post as a professor of the History of Ukraine Department and Philosophy and Economy Theory Department.In October 2006 he was appointed to the position of Vice-Rector for Scientific Work of Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University. In January 2008 he was transferred to the position of Vice-Rector for Scientific Work and International Cooperation of the university.
On January 22, 2013 he defended his thesis for a doctorate degree in Philosophy in specialty 09.00.10 – Philosophy of Education. The theme of the thesis is Worldview Component of the Political Training and Education of Youth: Functional Potential and Its Usage. The thesis was defended in the Д 64.053.07 Dissertation Advisory Committee in Kharkiv Hryhorii Skovoroda National Pedagogical University.
In 2006 he was awarded an honorary certificate of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; in May 13, 2007 he was bestowed an award pin of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. On May 19, 2011 he was awarded an honorary certificate of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. During the period of 2005-2015 he was awarded the honors of the local authority (regional, district and city authority) and local self-government authorities and those of Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University. During the period of 2009-2011 he was a grant-holder of the scholarship for young scholars and scientists awarded by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Bohdan Buyak is a member of the General Committee of the Vice-Rectors for Scientific Work Council, Graduate Scientific Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, General Committee of Kharkiv Political Experts Association and Ukrainian Political Sciences Association.
Bohdan Buyak is an expert in such spheres as history of Ukraine, political studies and philosophy of education. During the last twenty years his scientific activity has been dedicated to the problems of modern history of Ukraine, political socialization of the young, worldwide component of training and education of youth and historical and philosophical aspects of education.
The results of his scientific and research and also tutorial activity are represented in a number of publications (more than 70).The main academic papers are Development of Industrial Sphere of Western Regions of Ukrainian Soviet Socialistic Republic During 1944-1958 (Based on the Materials of Lviv, Drohobych, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil regions) (2001), Modern Ukrainian Youth Political Culture Formation (2002), Political Socialization of Young People: Its Main Point and Modern Ukrainian Experience (2004): Ethnonational Aspects in Forming Political Culture and Socialization of Youth in Ukraine (2006), Political Socialization of Students in the Conditions of Modern Ukrainian Country`s Development (2007), The Youth as a Specific Socio-Demographic Group in the Conditions of Socio-Constitutional State and Civil Society Development (2007); Ukrainian Youth Education Modernization within the Framework of Transformation and Globalization Processes (2010), Higher Pedagogical Education and Science of Ukraine: Modern History and Prospects. He took part in different scientific forums with the aim to popularize his own scientific and practical work, and also headed Organizing Committees of International, Ukrainian and regional scientific conferences.
Undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students do scientific researches under his supervision. PhD dissertations in History of Ukraine Problems of Dnieper Ukraine`s Political Emigration in Public and Political Processes of Western Ukraine (V. Ivashchuk) and in Philosophy of Education Historical Memory in Educational and Training Practices of Political Education (Philosophical and Educational Reflection) (M. Tymkiv) have been defended under his supervision.Bohdan Buyak has been taking part in the work of Д 64.053.07 Dissertation Advisory Committee in specialties 09.00.04 – Philosophical Anthropology, Philosophy of Culture, 09.00.10 – Philosophy of Education in Kharkiv Hryhorii Skovoroda National Pedagogical University and Д 58.053.04 Dissertation Advisory Committee in specialties 07.00.01 – History of Ukraine; 07.00.02 – World History in Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University for a long time.
Working as a Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation, Bohdan Buyak perpetually did his best in searching effective structures for scientific work and international cooperation in the university. Lately, he has been participating in developing a number of scientific projects of Tempus and Tacis international grant programs. He is an organizer and active participant of many international research projects in the sphere of higher education. He participated in a number of international programs the International training program at the US Department of State for Ukrainian Higher Educational Institutions’ Leaders International Visitor Leadership Program (Washington, Raleigh, Boston, November December 2010); the Academic Integrity International Exchange program in Meridian International Exchange State Centre in the USA (Washington, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, Boston) under the patronage of the US Embassy in Ukraine (February 2015); the ELITE Education for Leadership, Intelligence and Talent Encouraging Tempus international educational project program 544343-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-LT-TEMPUS-SMHES (2013-2016). He undertook scientific internship at Estonian Business School (Tallin, Estonia) (in the framework of the Education for Leadership, Intelligence and Talent Tempus project at Estonian Business School, Estonia) (May 19-21, 2015); at University College of Social Sciences (Wyzcha Szkola Lingwistyczna), Czestochowa (Poland) (in the framework of European Weeks Winter and Summer schools) (2013 2016); the Leadership Summer School in Ternopil (September 4-8, 2015); at Politology and Sociology and Culturology Department in Kharkiv Hryhorii Skovoroda National Pedagogical University (March 05th, 2015 April 05th, 2015); Methods of Creating E-Learning Courses in the Moodle System (11.01 21.01. 2010); the Practical Possibilities for Realization of Cross-Cultural Approach in Historical Education System seminar (Odesa, October 08, 2011); the course organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Institute of Higher Education of NAPS (National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences) of Ukraine and Canadian-Ukrainian Building Democracy Project (Kyiv, January 3-29, 2005); the Youth – School Society educational program (Kyiv, March 17, 2007); the Civil Education – Ukraine international project (Cambridge Education) (December 7, 2007).
Since 2012 he has been a coordinator of university bilateral certificates program jointly with University College of Social Sciences (Wyzcha Szkola Lingwistyczna) in Czestochowa (Poland), Yan Dlugosz Academy in Czestochowa (Poland) and Academic Exchange Programs.Bohdan Buyak is a visiting professor at Yan Dlugosz Academy in Czestochowa (Poland) and University College of Social Sciences (Wyzcha Szkola Lingwistyczna) in Czestochowa (Poland).
On November 08, 2017 he was elected as a Rector of the university having won 91,86% of votes. On December 15, 2017 by the order №770-к of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Bohdan Buyak was appointed the Rector of Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University.
