Biography
Bogdan Buyak was born on 26 October 1974 in Ternopil into a family of civil servants.

In 1992, he graduated from Ternopil Secondary School No. 11. From 1992 to 1997, he studied at the Faculty of History of Ternopil State Pedagogical Institute. After graduation and until 2000, he continued his studies at the full-time postgraduate course of Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk State Pedagogical University, specialising in 07.00.01 History of Ukraine, which he completed ahead of schedule in September 2000 on the basis of a preliminary defence. Alongside his postgraduate studies, he worked as Assistant Director of LLC “Vatra-Ars” and as Head of the “Perlyna” Club at the Palace of Culture of the Vatra Production Association. In autumn 1997, he briefly worked as a history teacher at Proshiv Secondary School, Ternopil region. On 11 September 2000, he was appointed Head of the Department of Educational Work at the Pedagogical University.

On 26 December 2001, he defended his Candidate’s thesis “Development of the Industrial Sector in the Western Regions of the Ukrainian SSR in 1944–1950s (Based on Materials from Drohobych, Lviv, Stanislav, and Ternopil Regions)” in the specialism 07.00.01 History of Ukraine, at the specialised academic council of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University.

From 2001, he served as Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Ukrainian History, Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk State Pedagogical University; from 2005, Associate Professor at the same department; and since 2013, Professor at the Department of Ukrainian History and the Department of Philosophy and Economic Theory.
In October 2006, he was appointed Vice-Rector for Research at Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University. In January 2008, he became Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation.

On 22 January 2013, he defended his doctoral dissertation in Philosophy (specialty 09.00.10 Philosophy of Education) “The Worldview Component of Political Education and Youth Upbringing: Functional Potential and Prospects for its Application” at the specialised academic council D 64.053.07 of H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University.

Honorary Titles and Awards:
In 2006, awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
On 13 May 2007, awarded the badge “Excellence in Education of Ukraine”.
On 19 May 2011, awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Between 2005–2015, received numerous awards from local (regional, district, city) authorities and from TNPU.
From 2009–2011, a scholarship holder of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for young scientists.
Prof. Buyak has long been a member of the Presidium of the Council of Vice-Rectors for Research and the Certification Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as of the Presidium of the Kharkiv Association of Political Scientists and the Ukrainian Association of Political Science. 
Bogdan Buyak is a specialist in the fields of Ukrainian history, political science, and philosophy of education. Over the past 20 years, his research has focused on modern Ukrainian history, political socialisation of youth, the worldview component of political education and upbringing, and the historical-philosophical aspects of education.
His academic and methodological output is reflected in more than 70 publications.

Prof. Buyak has participated in various academic forums with the aim of promoting his own scholarly and practical contributions, and has chaired organising committees of a number of international, national, and regional academic conferences.

Under his supervision, research is carried out by undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, and Candidate’s theses have been defended, including in Ukrainian history – “Problems of the Dnipro Region Political Emigration in the Socio-Political Processes of Western Ukraine” (Ivashchuk V.), and in the philosophy of education – “Historical Memory in the Educational Practices of Political Upbringing (Philosophical and Educational Reflection)” (Tymkiv I.).

B. Buyak has served as a member of specialised academic councils D 64.053.07 (specialties: 09.00.04 – Philosophical Anthropology, Philosophy of Culture; 09.00.10 – Philosophy of Education) at H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, and D 58.053.04 (specialties: 07.00.01 – History of Ukraine; 07.00.02 – World History) at Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University.

As Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation, Bogdan Buyak has actively developed structures for research and international collaboration within higher education. Over the years, he has been actively involved in the design of a number of international grant projects under the Tempus and Tacis programmes. He has also been the initiator and participant of many international research projects in the field of higher education.

In November–December 2010, he took part in the international training programme of the United States Department of State for leaders of Ukrainian higher education institutions – International Visitor Leadership Program (Washington, Raleigh, Boston). In February 2015, he participated in the professional exchange programme Academic Integrity at the Meridian International Center (Washington, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, Boston), organised with the support of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

From 2013 to 2016, Bogdan Buyak was a participant of the international educational project ELITE – Education for Leadership, Intelligence and Talent Encouraging (544343-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-LT-TEMPUS-SMHES). On 19–21 May 2015, he completed professional training at the Estonian Business School (Tallinn, Estonia) within the framework of the TEMPUS project Education for Leadership, Intelligence and Talent. Between 2013 and 2016, he also undertook training within the Winter and Summer Schools European Weeks at the Higher Linguistic School in Częstochowa, Poland.

Bogdan Buyak participated in the Summer School of Leadership in Ternopil (4–8 September 2015) and in March–April 2015 undertook training at the Department of Political Science, Sociology and Cultural Studies of H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University. In January 2010, he completed training on the course Methodology of Creating E-Courses in the Moodle System. In October 2011, he participated in the All-Ukrainian Seminar Practical Opportunities for Implementing the Intercultural Approach in the System of Historical Education (Odesa).

Earlier, in January 2005, Bogdan Buyak completed an advanced training course organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Institute of Higher Education of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, and the Canada–Ukraine project Democracy Development (Kyiv). In March 2007, he took part in the civic education programme for pedagogical universities of Ukraine Youth–School–Community (Kyiv). On 7 December 2007, he undertook training within the framework of the international project Civic Education – Ukraine (Cambridge Education).

Since 2012, he has coordinated TNPU’s Dual Diploma Programme with Jan Długosz Academy and the Higher Linguistic School in Częstochowa (Poland), as well as academic exchange programmes. He has also been invited as a guest lecturer at Jan Długosz Academy and the Higher Linguistic School in Częstochowa.

On 8 November 2017, he was elected Rector of TNPU with 91.86% of the vote. On 15 December 2017, by Order No. 770-к of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, he was officially appointed Rector of Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University.
